I spent one year exploring a rural pocket of land suspended between suburbs in one of the most nature-depleted regions of the world. Thankfully it's only a couple of minutes from my house. Coundon Wedge is a cherished triangle of mixed farmland on the outskirts of Coventry; a provincial city in central England. Despite local popularity, it represents in microcosm what is happening to green spaces everywhere, with unrelenting pressure from misuse, farming, housing and industry.
The human impact on The Wedge is already overwhelming, but looking more closely reveals glimpses of the ancient ecosystem ticking along. The juxtaposition forces you to consider the strange disregard our modern worldview has for nature and the hope for its recognition.
I limited my equipment to a 100mm portrait lens and avoided post processing to get a more honest reflection of what I found.
